Back to Basics...
Dear Readers,
Forgive me for I have sinned. It's been 5 months since my last blog entry...
Why is that? Oh, I don't know really. I have been busy with the business and possibly took my eye off the ball in terms of blog writing.
Well, I'm a creative professional, what can I say! I'm easily distracted by something beautiful, whether that be an interiors project, my own home renovation or refinishing a piece of furniture.
Yes, it is a poor excuse, but I promise to be better from now on...
Speaking of which, I experienced what can only be described as an epiphany a few weeks ago. I had been going about my business, enjoying a much needed day away from my studio, when I came across several beautiful pieces of furniture, which for those of you who enjoy hunting out vintage or antique finds, will know can be difficult.
Some were a little battered and beaten, some missing castors, some minor damage. Others were in pristine condition but for one reason or another, had been shoved to the back of the antiques market I was busily exploring.
It struck me at that precise moment that I missed this. Missed the buzz of discovering an amazing find. Missed renovating and restoring a piece of furniture. Missed revealing the finished product.
So why stop? It wasn't intentional. Certainly not a conscious decision on my part. Life just gets in the way, I guess.
Without further ado or hesitation, I swept through the market identifying the items I felt I wanted to 'do' something or felt an affinity with. It seems funny saying it like that, but that's so often how it works for me. Having a gut instinct or instant connection with a piece. Much like buying a house, making friends or changing jobs. You instantly know if it’s going to work or not. Having said that, I think you only acquire that kind of hindsight after a few poor life choices.
So readers, yes, that’s where I have spent some of my time. Going back to basics... Enjoying one of my first loves, which I will happily share with you as and when they are finished, but for now, here's a lovely piece I have recently completed.
Please let me know what you think of her Scandi-style inspired fret-work. I'd love your feedback. I personally love it but it’s unlikely I will be keeping her as simply do not have the space.
